Yet beneath the cheerful exterior of Foodmasku's project lies a deeper, poignant narrative. A decade ago, Wiriadjaja survived a shooting. It was art, he says, that kept him going. As part of his recovery process, he photographed his gunshot wounds every day until the trial of his shooter. He credits other survivors of gun violence who took him under their care and the strength of art for his survival.

His recovery journey involved taking daily selfies of his scars - a process that took every ounce of his strength but was ultimately therapeutic. His images went viral, and his story was featured in media outlets like the New York Post, New York Times, and Rolling Stone.

Wiriadjaja is a vocal advocate for addressing the issue of gun violence. He states, "The root of the problem is too many guns in too many hands." Despite facing criticism for his stance, he continues to use his platform to push for change.

Harnessing Art for Advocacy

Foodmasku is now a board member of Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence, a collective founded by Sandy Hook survivor Abbey Clements, Parkland survivor Sarah Lerner, and NYC teacher Sari Beth Rosenberg. He strongly believes in the potential for numerous solutions to end gun violence, emphasizing the need for collective agreement on the issue's existence.

Foodmasku serves as a testament to the power of art as a tool for healing, self-expression, and social advocacy. In Wiriadjaja's words, "I’m a Red Sox fan living in NYC. People with different beliefs can co-exist."
